Surely and Steadily

When I was seven years old, my father encouraged me to become a Christian so that I might always be a good child. When one of my teachers heard about this, she kindly offered to take me to her denominational gathering every Lord’s Day morning. I followed her and became a very dedicated Christian child. I remember that at eight or nine years old, I always sang at the top of my lungs, over and over, the songs I learned from Sunday school. I loved to tell everyone that I went to Sunday school. I always tried to memorize all the verses and stories and to perform well in everything I did there. Whenever I took a test, I asked the Lord to be my wisdom so that I could obtain perfect scores. I was always among the top 0.5 % of the students throughout my primary, junior high and high schools. At home, my father told my brothers that among all his children, I was closest to the Lord Jesus. My mother told me that I was the sweetest child whenever I came back from a Christian meeting.

Having graduated from National Taiwan University, I came to the United States to pursue higher education. I obtained two Masters degrees, in physics and computer science respectively. I was admitted into the Ph.D. program of MIT’s Nuclear Engineering Department. During that period of time, I met a dear Christian sister meeting with one of the local churches, the church in Chicago. The Lord’s being living, real, personal and intimate to her deeply attracted me. Her tender care toward me, rich and proper knowledge of the truths, being the top student in the Ph.D. program of the Chemistry Department at Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, and her diligence in seeking the Lord stirred up my heart to seriously pursue the Lord. Following her suggestion, I registered for the Life-study conference in December 1977. I heard from Witness Lee’s mouth a pure, proper, rich, all-inclusive, all-extensive and well-balanced interpretation of the New Testament for the first time. The Bible became a living bequest to me. The Lord became real and practical in my daily living. I did not pursue my Ph.D. degree at MIT because the Lord touched me inwardly that making nuclear bombs and becoming a woman general or defense minister was not the way of God’s administration for me: I began to touch and fellowship with the Lord surely and steadily through my regenerated human spirit, whenever and wherever I could. I started to devour the writings of Witness Lee and Watchman Nee. My love toward the Lord was thus profoundly rekindled. I appreciate that these two ministers of the New Testament truths had faithfully opened up the mystery of God’s heart’s desire according to His good pleasure. These two ministers had spread the Lord’s Word on the earth in order to build up the Body of Christ to bring back the Lord and to consummate His eternal purpose.

Within the past twenty-two years, I have had the opportunity to directly serve on the publication of the New Testament Recovery Version–from 1986 to 1989. Witness Lee was extremely faithful in interpreting the Word. He had persistent faith for persistent prayer regarding the Lord’s interest. He constantly denied his self. He loved the local churches around the globe and all the seeking ones for the building up of the Body of Christ. His ministry was prolific as well as nourishing and cherishing to all the Lord’s children. Knowing Witness Lee personally has strengthened my faith. Before Witness Lee went to be with the Lord in 1997, he completed the Life-study of the entire Bible. He showed a sure and steady way to carry out God’s New Testament plan. In the past three-and-a-half years, I have seen the Lord’s working among the local churches. Believers have risen up. Truths have been widely spread. Local churches have been established. God’s expression has been expanded and enlarged. God’s divine attributes have been further expressed in human virtues. All these have swiftly advanced with a pace I have never experienced before. For the Lord’s interest and His eternal purpose, I pray that the Lord will gain His overcomers in this age. “Yes, I come quickly. Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!” (Rev. 22:20) is my earnest prayer. I pray that the Lord would come back in my lifetime to claim His Bride and His creation, and to manifest His eternal kingdom for His glory forever and ever. Amen.
